BREAK WITH PROTOCOL
(McAndrew)
in the forest stands a tree so tall
if no-ones there who will hear it fall
it's roots have dug through many years
covert party approaching near
an end in sight, transgressors justice
unexpected, but possible life-twist
to kneel, resign, to meet lead's destiny
or from the bough on twine to sway
all because you made a BREAK WITH PROTOCOL
you broke the rules when you set out your stall
when represening the few, your eye strayed from the ball
there's no escape don't even try to crawl
you broke with protocol
rules are there, some say to be broken
unwritten words so softly spoken
body language that's never seen
behind grand gestures, so clearly token
whispered direction from unlikely places
conscise instructions, but never faces
if they fall on deaf ears are they heard
inaudible guidance that leaves no traces
all because you made a BREAK WITH PROTOCOL
you broke the rules when you set out your stall
representing the few, you let your eye slip from the ball
there's no escape, there will be no curtain call
there's just one chance you had at this
you prepared the hit in confusion's mist
the point is made to few, not all
you must never, never break with protocol
all because you made a BREAK WITH PROTOCOL
you broke the rules when you set out your stall
representing the few, you took your eye off of the ball
there's no escape, there won't be no curtain call
you only had one chance you had at this
prepared the hit but in confusion missed
the point is made to few, not all
you must never, never break with protocol
you must never BREAK WITH PROTOCOL
you must never, never BREAK WITH PROTOCOL
Comment:- The lyrical idea for this lies in the world of espionage and accepted protocol and was inspired by the excellent UK BBC1 series called Spooks (as well as current industrial relations within my workplace). My imagination took me to the silence of the forest where the agent who has been caught is to be dispatched and has the choice of either tree (via noose) or kneeling (via bullet)!!
