SYMI BLUES (Nimos birthdays)
(McAndrew/McAndrew)
lordy, lordy mama, we've got the nimos birthday blues
lordy, lordy mama, we've got the nimos birthday blues
lordy, lordy mama, let's let all nimos hear our news
jan she walks and jan she talks and sometimes both together
jan she walks and jan she talks and sometimes both together
from the niborio highway to nanou bay she sprints it hell for leather
lordy, lordy mama, we've got the nimos birthday blues
lordy, lordy mama, we've got the nimos birthday blues
lordy, lordy mama, let's let all nimos hear our news
angels laugh and angels sing and sometimes tears do shed
angels laugh and angels sing and sometimes tears do shed
they cry 'cause sometimes jan goes where angels fear to tread
lordy, lordy mama, we've got the nimos birthday blues
lordy, lordy mama, we've got the nimos birthday blues
lordy, lordy mama, let's let all nimos hear our news
barry wears dark glasses to hide his line of sight
barry wears dark glasses to hide his line of sight
but barry, barry, barry, why are you still wearing them at night
lordy, lordy mama, we've got the nimos birthday blues
lordy, lordy mama, we've got the nimos birthday blues
lordy, lordy mama, let's let all nimos hear our news
barry barry barry why don't you prove that you can sing
(singing break)
barry barry barry prove that you can do the highland fling
(dancing break)
you proved to all of us here, that you can neither dance or sing
lordy, lordy mama, we've got the nimos birthday blues
lordy, lordy mama, we've got the nimos birthday blues
lordy, lordy mama, let's let all nimos hear our news
while sailing out of Yiallos, on the east side of the bay
while sailing out of Yiallos, on the east side of the bay
we spied two teddies wakening at the dawning of their day
lordy, lordy mama, we've got the hibernation blues
lordy, lordy mama, we've got the hibernation blues
lordy, lordy mama, let's let all nimos hear our news
now grisly bears get angry and panda bears are few
now grisly bears get angry and panda bears are few
but we don't know no teddies that we love as much as you
lordy, lordy mama, we've got the hibernation blues
lordy, lordy mama, we've got the hibernation blues
lordy, lordy mama, let's let all nimos hear our news
Comment:- The modified lyrics for a gig on Nimos as a celebration of Barbara, Martin, Jan and Barry's birthdays. We sailed across to Nimos in darkness and were guided to the morring by a light being flashed from the shore. We then off-loaded the provisions and enjoyed some food. There were greek soldiers stationed on the island and they started to play some Greek traditional songs, before I played a solo set (including the above birthday blues). Afterwards I had the most enjoyable jam with the soldiers who kept asking for more blues! I'll never forget one of the soldiers who was playing a traditional greek instrument (not unlike a small mandolin) and was playing this amazing bottleneck using his cigarette lighter!
